At a university fair conducted in Pune on 13 September 2014, Officials of the US consulate General, Mumbai, have said that more than one lakh students from India are presently pursuing their education in the US and they represent 12 percent of the foreign students at the universities.
Representatives from renowned universities such as Columbia University, Pennsylvania State University and Harvard University have participated in the fair to assist students and clear their doubts on applying to the universities in the US. Moreover, students got an opportunity to communicate with the representatives of the renowned organizations, which conduct the tests such as GRE, TOEFL, GMAT, SAT and IELTS.
Press officer of the US Consulate General, Mumbai Jeffrey E Ellis, said that there has been an increase in the number of applications being filed and issuances from Indian students to pursue education in the US. Also, there has been a huge rise in the number of Indian students attending these tests that are required to get admitted in the US universities.
Vice consul, Jesse C Walter, has made clear about the visa interview process, which includes various questions as why the student has opted for the particular school, in what way the finance has been planned and in what way the visa applicant wants to keep up student status during the stay in the country.
Previous students of US universities have exchanged their views on the benefits of pursuing education in the US and how it is useful to them.
