Canada has it the headlines yet another time for all good reasons. The minister for Canada Citizenship and Immigration, Chris Alexander, has thanked the government for enhancements in the citizenship program and latest amendments to the citizenship Act. He also announced that Canada has welcomed over 260,000 new nationals in 2014. This is the first time in the entire country’s history that Canada has received a large number of new nationals, which is more than twice the figure from previous year.
With the recent reforms to the Canada Citizenship Act, the government has made pace over the previous year to progress the application process of citizenship, and individuals are already getting results.
The recent decision-making process of Canada citizenship, which came into effect on 1 August, has smoothed the application process to one step from three steps. Since the execution of new process, over 115,000 individuals has become citizens of Canada, representing 90% rise when compared to same period in the last year.
The backlog for Canada's citizenship application has been minimized by 17%, since June 2014.
The government of Canada is planning to eradicate the citizenship application backlog and minimize the visa processing time below one year in the next financial year.
The citizenship processing fee will rise from $300 to $530 for the applicants, whose applications are received after 1 January 2015. These applicants are going to get benefits from processing enhancements.
These reforms are exempted for the minor applicants, who are applying for citizenship grants and renewals. The Right of Citizenship fee is $100, which remains similar for successful applicants. Moreover, other fees for services, which include citizenship proofs, are not going to modify.
The minister for Canada's Citizenship and Immigration, Chris Alexander, said that the heading of record number of new nationals in 2014 represents the positive impact of Canada government amendments on the Citizenship Act, as a number of individuals are received into the Canadian family. With over 260,000 new nationals accepting Canadian traditions and values in 2014, the government is fulfilling its assurance to minimize backlogs and progress processing times.
