The information technology (IT) industry in India is planning to seek clarity from US president, Obama, on the country’s visa laws as well as about the totalization agreement, during his visit to India this weekend.

The totalization agreement already exists between US and other 25 nations, including the UK, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

The president of Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services companies), R Chandrashekhar, said that due to the un-availability of totalisation agreement between India and US the IT professionals who are moving to the US are ending up with paying social security tax but in return they are not getting any benefits.

Nasscom also adopt issues related to immigration reform and ask for better transparency on L-1 visa guidance, which are granted for intra-company transfers.

Chandrashekhar also added that Obama's executive action on US immigration reforms had relaxed H-1B visas rules, however the guidance on L-1 visa for executive, managerial or specialized-knowledge class employees, is still pending.

The president of Nasscom also observes a better opportunity for Indian startups to team up with the US. He also said that the government highlights on Make in India and Digital India schemes brings a greater opportunity to build a strong ties between both the nations.
