According to U.S. officials, President Barack Obama has reassured the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that it will examine India’s concerns regarding the H-1B visa issue as a component of his broad immigration reforms. The U.S. President told Modi that his government would be in touch with the Indian counterpart on any matters related to this visa category which is popular among Indian techies.
Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor said that the H-1B visa was part of the comprehensive immigration reforms. Obama’s continual efforts to work with the Congress on pursuing these reforms would include these issues in the process as well as keeping in touch with the Indian government. On being asked about the bilateral talks between the two country’s heads, Rhodes openly acknowledged the fact that India raised some visible features of the immigration changes to the greatest level.
The two leaders had discussions about the policies related to Indian-American and Indian immigrants in the U.S. People of Indian origin are there in the United States working as techies as well as broader representation of those working on a temporary basis. Last year in November, President Obama had avoided clarifying to the Congress about protection of millions of illegal workers from banishment. This plan would be welcome news for parents of U.S. citizens as well as legal permanent residents in the country to live there temporarily. It would be applicable to those who had resided in the U.S. for the last five years.
This measure is the greatest one on immigration ever taken by a U.S. President and is slated to help maximum number of Indian techies who are currently languishing under the travails of H-1B visas to get Green Card or Legal Permanent Residence (LPR).
