Here’s some good news to all those who would like to migrate to Canada as caregivers. The Minister of Canada Citizenship and Immigration (CIC), Chris Alexander, has announced major amendments to the Caregiver Program that recognizes the valuable contributions of caregivers to the Canadian families and economy.
The new amendments to the program includes ending the live-in obligation, and providing two pathways for the qualified caregivers, which would lead them to obtain permanent residence within six months.
One of the pathway feature for caregivers are equivalent to the present requirements, conversely, they no need to reside in the home of their employers where they might face abuses.
Additionally, caregivers in a various health care professions such as registered nurses, licensed practical nurse, registered psychiatric nurses, orderlies, nurse aides, patient service associates as well as home support employees, would also have a pathway to Canada permanent residence. Qualified caregivers in this field would be capable to attain their work experience either in offering care in a health-care or in-home care facility to an aged individual or an individual with a chronic medical state or disability. This pathway provides a number of career opportunities for qualified caregivers and target employees in professions that are likely to experience labor scarcities in the future. Applications in this field would be processed within a period of six months.
Canadian Government is taking hostile action to minimize applications backlog for permanent residence under the Live-in Caregiver Program.
According to the 2015 Levels Plan, Canada would welcome 30,000 new permanent residents under this live-in caregiver program category. Diminishing the backlog and processing times would mean that qualified caregivers will be able to reunite very soon with their families.
Individuals who have already applied as Caregivers under the Live-in Caregiver Program work permits and one who apply as per the an employer’s permitted Labor Market Impact Assessment submitted prior to 30 November, would also be capable to complete the work requirement on live-in grounds and ultimately apply for permanent residence.
