Canada is set to change its immigration policy through a new system known as “Express Entry” starting January 2015 to actively recruit, evaluate and select skilled immigrants.
At present, people interested to immigrate to Canada have to choose one of the several streams to apply for a visa, whereas beginning next year there will be one list available to place an individual’s name, which will work as job bank for the government along with employers to be able to choose candidates.
Selected candidates will receive an invitation to file applications under any of three available economic immigration programs namely the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program along with some of the Provincial Nominee Programs.
As a first step under this program, applicants should create Express Entry profile providing information regarding their education, language ability, work experience and skills including other details. Following this, applicants will be ranked against each other.
Besides, those applicants who possess a valid job offer will be guaranteed to receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency.
Applicants will have to wait while the province or the government evaluates the candidates. Candidates should submit a new application if no invitation is received following 12 months of being on the list. Candidates will receive invitation to file applications for permanent residency if successful and will have time duration of 60 days to apply after receiving the invitation.
Another significant step towards this new system includes discontinuing the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).
