International Students Help Enrich Culture

Few of the most acclaimed individuals from varied fields of arts –Spanning film, design, fashion, drama, music and dance –who have studied in UK. Not only that, but we (group of artists) have also allowed these individuals to stay on and work after completion of their studies, which would help enriching the cultural life of the United Kingdom.

International students presently prefer to earn a minimum salary of £20,800 (considerable it can be more in some professions) to qualify for a work visa after their studies. They must also be employed by a single employer. These requirements do not much reflect the reality of the cultural as well as creative industries. Many lend helping hand to the David Willets (Former universities minister) and also to the all party parliamentary group, on migration. These both have a feeling that greater flexibility is very important.

Whatever may be the makeup of the next government, it should consider again about the UK immigration policy. The rethink should start with removal of students from any kind of immigration target set for the next parliament. They should also consider increasing opportunities for the international graduates, so that they stay back in UK after completing their graduation or degree. Otherwise, if we (group of artists) do not act now, then we risk losing a generation of talented individuals to our competitors.
