Here’s some good news for individuals who would like to migrate and settle in Quebec. The Canadian province, Quebec is all set to make major amendments of its immigration policy; the proposed amendments would partly inspire by Canada’s immigration model, the Quebec immigration minister said.
Kathleen Weil, immigration minister, said that it’s the time for the province to overhaul its immigration model and the method it selects, receives and assimilates immigrants into the job market.
Immigration minister said to the leading press that she is preparing to launch “big reform” between Quebec society and immigrants, by the end of year, a process would come into force which reviews Quebec’s immigration law.
All the aspects such as the count of immigrants welcomed yearly, the selection process, desired nations of origin, the significance of French language and courses and others will be set soon.
She added that the present province’s current policy has been in place since 25 years.
Later a consultation will also be conducted on two specific aspects of immigration such as the count of immigrants the province would like to welcome each year and their nations of origin.
On the other hand, the emphasis will be on Quebec economy and corresponding between the selection of new immigrants and labor force needs. Seeking candidates who can fill vacant jobs will be essential, and on that matter, the province is being inspired by Canada’s new immigration model.
In the previous year, the Canadian government amended its selection process for fresh immigrants. With the emphasis mainly on filling the jobs, however, every aspirant for Canada immigration should produce a “declaration of interest”, showing his or her skills to meet Canadian employers’ needs. And Weil wants the same model for Quebec as well.
Employers in each and every industry across the Quebec will be invited to better describe their workforce requirements and produce a profile of the perfect employee to bring into the province. In the meantime professional associations would be asked to better deem applicants holding diplomas secured abroad.
Each year, between 50,000 and 55,000 overseas nationals relocate to Quebec. She also added that after the consultations new immigration policy as well as an action plan will be produced. Immigrants should also be proficient in French language, prior to their arrival to the province.
