Thousands Of Nurses And Engineers Got 457 Work Visa Approved In Australia

Indian, British as well as Chinese workers are queuing up for jobs in Australia, with applications for 457 work visas and it recorded a jump of 15% in a year.

Nearing to thousands of nurses and engineers have got approval for work visas in the previous year, eventhough the employment department have been cancelling their skills shortage status.

Despite the high levels of domestic unemployment, the immigration department shows that 1.5 million temporary migrants which include students,457 visa holders as well as the  backpackers do have the right to work in Kangaroo nation.

Nearly one in every 50 trade’s people ,technicians mining workers, professional,  hospitality staff and professional who are employed in Australis are foreign workers who are  hired on four year 457 visa. The foreign workers on short term contract now account nearly one in 20 workers in Australia’s information technology sector.

The jobless rate is about 6% in Australia , with another 8.5% of the workforce  who are underemployed and are  wanting more amount of work. The latest immigration department has revealed  that 15% increase  in the number of 457 visa application with 40,870 lodged in the nine months to March this year, when compared with 35,440 during the same time last year.

The hospitality, Scientific sectors and IT are fueled the increase with a 37% increase in the applications for accommodation and food services, about 31% there is rise for IT jobs and 27 % jump in the professional technical and scientific category.

Half the applicants are from India, China and Britain.  Foreign students  as well as backpackers already living in Australia accounted for more than a quarter of the 457 visa granted in the 9 months to March.

The immigrants data reveals that the total number of 457 visa holders in Australia fell by 4.5% to 106,755 in 12 months to March this year. However, the increase in the applications by 15% indicate that there has been demand for foreign work visa is starting to rise.

As per the data provided to Senate inquiry into the work visa system, the immigration department has approved 832 temporary work visas for nurses and about 2349 for engineers in the nine month March this year.

In total, 8667 foreign nurses have been granted 457 work visas since 2011,last year the employment department has found a national shortage of nurses.  And about 5935 foreign engineers received 457 visas since the time engineers have been removed from the skills shortage list in 2013.
