The Government of Australia will introduce eGates at eight international airports beginning 2015.
Australia’s minister for immigration and border protection, Scott Morrison, said that the government is set to roll out this plan as part of its commitment of $158 million as an added fund towards immigration and border protection to enhance the security of the nation.
Introducing eGates all through the airports is a significant investment in the management of the border, which would provide lawful, trust worthy travelers with smooth experience, the minister added.
Front line officers can ease the path of travelers with more efficiency and less manual intervention through eGate technology. Thereby, they will be able to lay their attention on interacting with travelers, intelligence gathering, which play a significant role in ensuring the safety at the border, he added.
Smart Gate facility will be extended to the nationals of Canada, Ireland, Malaysia, Japan, China, India and French in the coming 12 months.
The minister said that the officers at the borer must have access to top technology to pay their attention on those who are likely to be a threat to the country and at the same time ensure smooth travel to lawful travelers.
