Here’s some good news for the spouses of Canadians who want to migrate to Canada. The Government of Canada has announced the launch of a one-year pilot program enables the issuance of work permits more swiftly for the partners of Canadians, who are already residing in Canada, but awaiting Canada permanent residency.
The one-year pilot program has come into force, after recognizing the situations of Canadian families, residing in limbo and unable to employ due to the lack of health coverage and extensive processing times for sponsorship applications.
The spokesperson for Immigration Minister, Chris Alexander, has said to a leading news paper that Canada Citizenship and Immigration (CIC) is introducing a one-year pilot program that enables spouses, who are supported under Inland Spousal Sponsorship program to acquire work permits in a faster pace, during the application process.
Present individuals, who have been waiting since more than 18 months, can see their applications of Canada open work permit processed within a period of few weeks, whereas new applicants can see their applications processed within a period of four months.
Canada open work permit enables applicants to work for any employer in Canada for a certain period of time, when their applications for Canada permanent residence are processed.
This open work permit would also enable the applicants to acquire provincial health coverage when waiting for Canada permanent residency.
