Chris Alexander, Citizenship and Immigration Minister of Canada announced federal support for foreigners to Calgary as they pick up language skills, find jobs and integrate into the Canadian community.
Alexander said that by providing immigrants with the tools necessary to succeed, they are helping to build a stronger economy and a stronger community. He insisted that being able to speak French or English is key to ensuring that newcomers to Canada can provide for their families quickly and contribute more fully.
It was announced that LINC Program (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) will offer part-time and full-time training to almost 1,200 students and Federal support amounts to a total of $16.2 million over 3 years.
Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Program
The LINC Program supports language training in French and English to adult permanent residents who are newcomers to Canada. Initiated in 1992, the program strives to help newcomers integrate into the country and Canadian communities.
The ability to effectively communicate in either English or French is a primary factor in the success of newcomers to Canada and every year, over 60,000 newcomers benefit from LINC.
