CIC Authorizes Transitional Measures To Certain Immigration Programs

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has started to consider the age for dependents as below 19 years with effect from 01 August 2014. 

Change in the age of the dependents will help place the federal immigration program supported by provinces ‘age of majority’.

CIC will authorize ‘transitional measures’ for those immigrant applicants, who are engaged in multi step permanent resident programs. However, may not have lodged their applications before 01 August 2014.

Provincial Nominee Program, Quebec's economic programs, Live-in caregivers, Quebec humanitarian cases, refugee claimants and refugees abroad, parents or grandparents whose applications were received prior to 05 November 2011 and privately sponsored refugees whose applications were accepted prior to 18 October 2012 were the relevant immigration programs under transitional measures.

As part of its implementation of the new age for dependents, CIC said that the government will ‘lock in’ the dependent age for Children in the influenced programs.
