US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will permit 13,999 non-immigrants for Transitional Worker (CW-1) program of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) for the fiscal year (FY2015).
Under this program, CNMI employers will be able to apply for temporary permission to hire overseas nationals who are not eligible for any prevailing employment-based nonimmigrant category in accordance with the Immigration and Nationality Act.
In order to meet the labor market needs and give a chance for potential growth, DHS has set the CW-1 limit at 13,999 for this fiscal year.
This announcement remains ineffective to the status of existing CW-1 workers except for individuals whose employer files an extension for their authorized period of stay. The petitions that are approved within 1 October 2014 to 30 September 2015 will be counted for 13,999 limit. This limit is applicable only to CW-1 principals and it does not affect existing CW-2 holders, which is for partners and dependent children of CW-1 non-immigrants.
