Australia’s Assistant Immigration Minister, Michaelia Cash, announced that the wage levels for foreign workers will be on par with the Australian staff as per the latest migration agreements.
Under new arrangements offered to the local regions facing skill shortages, Aussie employers will have to pay wages for overseas skilled workers, which are compatible with Australian staff.
In addition, he noted that overseas employers should be paid at least a wage, which is equal to that of Australian workers in all the programs including DAMA referred as Designated Area Migration Agreement.
It has to be mentioned here that all the new local area migration agreements will have to follow the threshold salary for the 457 visas or Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), which represents $ 53,900.
Michaelia Cash said that the foreign workers will have to be paid either the market salary rate, or the TSMT. He specified that overseas workers employed under the DAMA will have to get a pay equivalent to that of Australian worker. He added on saying that no other overseas worker will be hired on rates less than the Australian workers receive.
