Germany is planning to entice thousands of overseas nationals each year, for the coming ten years to plug the skill gap, a report released by a top economics research institute unveiled.
Proponents stated that diminishing population and a deficit of skilled professionals in various key sectors such as engineering and the medical professions implies the country is facing a problem in paying pensions and offering healthcare facilities.
As per the study, over one-fifth of Germans are now aged 65 years or older, making it a second-oldest nation in the world, after Japan. The country has lowest birthrates in the world, with an annual average of 8.42 births per 1,000 people.
A recent study made by the Institute for Employment Research in Nuremberg revealed that the labor force in the country is expected to drop by almost seven million by 2025. The country is going to face a severe labor shortage and require attracting hundreds and thousands of people every year to address the skill shortage.
Apparently, the government has announced a number of amendments to facilitate the immigration process of overseas nationals to settle and work in the country. During the recent years, Berlin has launched the Blue Card scheme to ease the procedure of recruiting qualified skilled overseas nationals. The card permitted overseas nationals holding a university degree and a salary of over €35,000 to file an application for permanent residency.
Sources stated that Germany has recorded highest immigration levels in the past 20 years in 2013, with 1,226,000 foreign nationals entering the country. Nonetheless, the country is still facing a shortage of skilled professionals in specific sectors. The country is open to nationals with right skills, no matter the country of their origin.
Reportedly, the country offers a number of child benefits scheme for parents getting a maximum of €215 each month. The country needs migration to sustain in the next ten years.
