With only one month left to the launch of Canada’s new immigration system that offers highly skilled immigrants express entry to Canada, a leading group, urging Express Entry system even for family immigration to make sure that children are reunified with their parents within a period of six months or less.
In a news release, the Canadian Council for Refugees reported that the Canada Citizenship and Immigration processing time for overseas dependent children under family group immigrants is 17 months and for families of refugees is 34 months.
The suggested Express Entry family immigration program is replicated on the new Express Entry economic program, which is going to be introduced by CIC, in January 2015. Under the new economic immigration program, overseas individuals holding a valid employment offer meet the required skills criteria that would process their applications within a period of six months or less.
The president of the council, Loly Rico, in a press release said that they consider children must be reunified with their parents at least by the time immigrants are brought into the Canada to fill the available job.
He added that it’s undesirable that family members of immigrants are regularly separated for a period of two years or more, because of time-consuming immigration process.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, in line with, which Canada should deal with the family reunification applications in a gentle, positive and speedy manner, convention states.
