In a bid to draw more overseas students to its shores, Canada needs to overhaul its immigration policies and should grant permanent residency rights to them, stated by a superior authority of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce.
The president of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC), D P Jain said that the prevailing immigration system is not encouraging overseas graduates to take part in the labor force and taking longer times to grant permanent residency status on the basis of technical grounds.
He stated that majority of overseas students enter Canada not only to pursue their education but with a view to immigrate with their families at the earliest. Hence, they should be granted permanent residency status after completion of their studies.
He further added that prevailing immigration policy is uncertain and offers restricted rights, which makes them to leave the nation after completion of their work visa period.
Jain is a prominent member in Indo-Canadian trade delegation. The delegation also visits Mumbai, Delhi and Jaipur to discuss with top authorities and businesses with regards to emerging opportunities between the two nations.
