Immigration Norms For H4 Visas Need To Change
06 Sep 2014
As a measure to attract even more skilled workers from across the globe, the Department of Home Land Security (DHS) has decided to extend the work authorizations to the spouses of the immigrants, who fall under high skilled category.
It has to be mentioned here that H4 visa holders are currently allowed to stay for just six months in the United States. Also, they won’t be given a Social Security Number (SSN). Nonetheless, they can hold bank accounts on their names.
Also, it is mandatory, under the present system, that the spouses need to wait for their green cards in order to search for employment in the country.
The new proposal would allow the dependents of H1B visa to secure an employment. However, such H1B holder should have necessarily initiated the green card process.
The immigration experts are of the opinion that the new proposal would bring in smiles on the faces of dependents of high skilled immigrants.
