In the year ending 11th December 2013, 46% of Ireland employment permits were granted to non-EEA citizens in the area of technology to fill the skills-shortage in the country.

According to the data from the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, out of the total number of people who were issued the Ireland employment permits, 1,679 permits, i.e., 46% were in the IT sector.
India and IT
1,363 Ireland employment permits, i.e., one-third of all the permits were issued to Indian citizens. Out of this number, two-thirds of the individuals catered to the IT sector of Ireland.
A further 15% i.e., 536 Ireland employment permits were issued to US citizens, and here too, one-third of the people who were granted the permit were in IT.
Similarly, the largest percentage of Ireland employment permits granted to Chinese and Brazilian citizens were also in the tech sector at 37% and 47% respectively.
Even 18 out of the top-20 companies that hired non-EEA citizens up to 5th December 2013, were companies dabbling in computer hardware, communication or information technology.
