New York Joins Chicago, Los Angels To Launch Campaign For Citizenship Program

New York is working with Chicago and Los Angeles to initiate a national campaign for citizenship.  

The program will help permanent residents to navigate through the citizenship process easily and also assists them by offering counseling, microloans, and legal assistance.

In a bid to promote citizenship, Garcetti, the Mayor of Los Angeles, initiated civic education workshops that offer educational materials in 72 public libraries. Notably, 12,000 immigrants have taken part in the workshops.

Bill de Blasio, the mayor of the New York, offered free and high quality legal services to its citizens who wish to naturalize through the NYCitizenship program. Since 2012, they have offered workshops over 7,600 New Yorkers and assisted over 1,800 New Yorkers to complete their naturalization process. The program has been expanded to agencies and libraries of the city to help more eligible New Yorkers. The New American Initiative program assisted 90,000 immigrants to become citizens of the United States.  

US citizens enjoy full civil and political rights, and can even travel abroad. Also, individuals will be able to gain government jobs and assistance      

Immigrants play a vital part in fueling the economy and we need to encourage more immigrants for the betterment   of the society, stressed Garcetti.
