Quebec To Accept 6,300 Applications For Quebec Skilled Worker Program

Quebec Government has stated that it will receive 6,300 applications on a whole for a Quebec Selection Certificate via its Quebec Skilled Worker Program, which is set to revive later this year.

Apparently, the cap for the recent application cycle that was filled in four months between 1 April and 30 July 2014 was 6500. New regulations with regards to the acceptance and processing of new Quebec Skilled Worker Program applications were anticipated to be announced by 1 April 2015. And, the Quebec government has stated that the new rules will be implemented for the period 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016 and the date from which the applications for the program will be accepted is not yet revealed.

According to sources, in January 2015, Quebec published the area of training list that is applicable to the coming application cycle for the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

Reportedly, immigration to Quebec via the Quebec Skilled Worker Program is a two-step procedure. Interested candidates will be evaluated through a points based system that gives points for certain factors such as age, education level, training specialization, work experience, language skills, links to the province and whether a candidate has a valid job offer from a Quebec employer. And, points will be awarded for spouse or common-law partner characteristics of the applicant and dependent children.

Prospective candidates who submit an accurate application will be granted with a Quebec Selection Certificate, after which applicants will be able to apply for a permanent resident visa of Canada.

According to sources, candidates will be exempted from the program cap if they are eligible to file an application under the Québec experience program or enclosed a job offer along with the application for a selection certificate that was submitted under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program or has been intimated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada that it has decided to process their applications for Canadian permanent residency or is a temporary resident and can file an application for a Certificat de sélection du Québec.
