With an intention to centralize the visa services under one roof, a top representative of Swiss embassy said that Switzerland has announced to introduce a centralized visa processing facilities in India by 2016.
The ambassador of Switzerland embassy, Dr Linus von Castelmur, said that the government is on track to consolidate the visa processing centers, especially from embassy side. At present, the visa applications of individuals from Chennai get processed in Mumbai by means of VFS. In forthcoming, it will be centralized and get processed in New Delhi.
According to the ambassador, the reason behind the centralizing visa processing is to receive enormous Switzerland visa applications. He also said that Switzerland occupies second place in processing 95,000 visa applications, following Germany, which processes around 1.15 lakh visa applications.
While taking part in an interactive session organized by a trade body of Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he added that Switzerland would commemorate the year 2015-2016 with the theme of 'Think Innovation, Think Switzerland'.
He further focused on the mutual trade relations between India and Switzerland, which has resulted to approximately USD 3.2 billion in the previous year, an increase when compare to earlier that year.
