In a bit to reverse the trend of declining number of Indian students heading to UK for study, the UK’s liberal democrat business secretary , Vince Cable, has announced that scholarships will be offered for Indian students attending British universities from 2015 intake.
He said that scholarships will be offered for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Moreover, a separate scheme will help Indian alumni of UK universities to return to Britain for career growth and to retain contacts with the people who met during their course of studies.
He stated that £1.5m is set down to 400 scholarships for Indian IT and engineering students who wish to study in the UK.
Reportedly, he said that he wanted to restore positive feeling and confidence in Indian students entering the country. Foreign students will bring in necessary skills that are required to the workforce and contribute a worth around £3bn each year to the UK economy.
Notably, an increase is witnessed in the number of students coming from Brazil, China and Malaysia.
A spokesman said that the country is open to the brightest and best talents and there is no cap on the number of foreign student arrivals in the UK.
