In a bid to bait more Indian students to study in the UK, the British Council has promulgated a leading program entitled as Great Britain Scholarships-India, which offers good scholarships for Indian students than ever before.
Under the scholarship program, UK grants around £1.51 million worth of scholarships this year. The scholarships are accessible in various streams such as law and business, biosciences, art and design and engineering, throughout 57 UK institutions located in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
The British Deputy High Commissioner, Bharat Joshi, said that an exhibition will be conducted in the city on 7 February 2015, as a part of Great Britain campaign. More than 60 UK institutions will take part in this exhibition.
He added that all the details regarding UK undergraduate, postgraduate as well as research programs will be provided in the exhibition. The details of UK student life and culture will also be provided in the exhibition. This sort of exhibitions will also be conducted in Pune, Coimbatore, Bengaluru and Kochi.
The Minister Counselor of British High Commission, Andrew Soper, said that almost 21,000 Indian students are pursuing their higher studies in the UK.
He also added that, if authentic students are offered admissions in authentic university in the UK, then there will be no issue in granting visas for students. Around 84% of Indian student visa applications were successfully granted in 2013.
The UK offers high quality education for the native and overseas students. World’s four leading institutions among six are located in the UK.
Focusing on Chevening scholarships, which will be offered for one year post graduate study, Soper told that the government of UK will quadruplicate its financing for such scholarships especially for Indian students in the coming two years, by making India as a major recipient in the globe.
He further added that the government is augmenting the investment to £2.4 million in 2015-2016 when compared with £600,000 in 2013-2014.
A press release from the British Council stated that more than 2.50 lakh Indians have pursued their higher studies in the UK during the past 10 years.
