This visa is for people who want to set up or take over, and be actively involved in running, a business or businesses in UK.

The Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) category is for those investing in the United Kingdom by setting up or taking over, and being actively involved in the running of one or more businesses in the United Kingdom.

This is a point based visa and the applicant needs to score

• at least 75 points for attributes
• 10 points for English language
• 10 points for maintenance

The attributes for which minimum 75 points are needed to be scored are:

a)      25 pointsif the applicant has access to not less than £200,000, or the applicant has access to not less than £50,000 from:

• One or more registered venture capital firms regulated by the Financial Services Authority,
• one or more UK entrepreneurial seed funding competitions which is listed as endorsed on the UK Trade & Investment website, or
• One or more UK Government Departments, and made available by the Department(s) for the specific purpose of establishing or expanding a UK business.

b)      25 pointsif the money is held in one or more regulated financial institutions

c)      25 pointsif the money is disposable in the United Kingdom

Where the applicant meets the requirements above by scoring enough points, and meets all other requirements of the Immigration Rules, he/she will be eligible for permission to stay under Tier 1 (Entrepreneur).

This visa is initially granted for three (3) years which can be extended leading to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Eligible dependants may also qualify to be included and upon obtaining the visa, they may also work or study without any restrictions. ILR entitles individuals to permanent residency in as well as visa-free travel to and from the UK. ILR holders may also be able to sponsor their non-British relatives into the UK and may also ultimately be eligible to apply for British citizenship.
