Domestic workers may include cleaners, chauffeurs, gardeners, cooks, those providing personal care for the employer or a member of the employer's family, and nannies if they are providing a personal service relating to the running of the employer's household.

- You will be given permission to stay in the UK for a fixed period of time. At the end of this period, you must return home or apply to extend your stay.
- We will not extend your permission to stay unless you are still employed as a domestic worker when your visa expires.
- You are allowed to change employer while you are in the UK, but you must still be employed as a domestic worker. If you change employer, you should notify us. You will not be allowed to change to a different type of employment.
- You must obtain a visa before you travel to UK.

When you apply for a visa, you must have been working for at least 1 year immediately before your application:
- As a domestic worker in the same house as your employer; or
- In a household that your employer uses on a regular basis, and there is evidence of a connection between you and the employer.
You must intend to work full-time in the UK as a domestic worker:
- In the house that your employer is living in; or
- In a household that the employer uses regularly, if you can show that there is a clear connection between you and the employer.
Also, you must:
- Be aged between 18 and 65; and
- Intend to travel to the UK with your employer, your employer's spouse or civil partner, or your employer's child aged under 18; and
- Not intend to work in the UK except as a domestic worker; and
- Be able to support yourself and any dependants without the need for public funds.

When you apply for a visa, you will need to provide:
- An undertaking signed by your employer; and
- A statement of your terms and conditions of employment.

You can bring your family members (known as 'dependants') to the UK if you are in the UK or planning to come to the UK as a domestic worker.
Your dependants are your husband, wife, civil partner, same-sex partner or unmarried partner, and your children aged under 18.
You dependents will have permission to stayin UK for the same length of time as you have. They will be able to work while they are in the UK, but their employment must not be necessary to support you or any other dependant.
If your dependants are outside the UK
Your dependants can apply to come with you to the UK or join you in UK.
If your dependants are inside the UK
If you apply to extend your stay in the UK, your dependants can also apply to extend their stay.
Can my dependants apply in their own right?
If they want to, your dependants can apply for permission in their own right (not as your dependants). They will need to meet the requirements of the immigration categories under which they are applying.
