To address the same, Swedish government is inviting skilled workers to come & settle in Sweden via the route of work permit.

The major eligibility criterion to migrate to Sweden is that an individual should have been made a valid job offer by a Swedish employer. The employer must prove that:
- The job offer was first made to natives of Sweden but due to lack of availability of labor required in Sweden, the job offer is made to an overseas national
- The offer is made in accordance with the regular norms of profession or sector
- Individuals must hold a valid work permit.
- Individual must hold a valid passport.
- The work permit must be issued by an employer in Sweden
- Employer must give preference to their citizens before issuing offer letter
- Employer has to send the work and salary details to the trade unions for approval
Sweden authorities will issue the work permit along with a residence permit card, before individual arrives in Sweden. Initially the Work Permit visa is granted for two years, and the residence permit card will also be issued for the same period. After completion of two years, Work permit holder can apply for Permanent Residency in Sweden.

The following family members of a work permit holder can be granted a residence permit in accordance with the visa validity period for main applicant. :
- Husband/wife or common law spouse
- Children under 21 years of age
If the employment of main applicant is more than 6 months, the above dependents can also be granted work permits.
