Things You Need to Know

-    Fill up the online Express Entry profile

You need to fill up the online Express Entry profile so the immigration department can gauge your skills, work experience, education, language ability and other criteria. Once you qualify your profile will enter into the Express Entry Pool.

If you do not have a job offer authenticated by a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) (if you need one), or nominated by a province or territory, then you must register with Employment and Social Development Canada’s (ESDC) Job Bank. Job Bank connects Express Entry candidates with eligible employers in Canada.

-    Improve your profile and ranking

Once your profile goes into the Express Entry pool, it will be ranked along the lines of the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System). The factors influencing CRS are:

Minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS,

Your skill set or work experience,

Your job offer,

Nomination of a province.

If you have a provincial nomination or a job from an LMIA certified employer then you get additional points. You can score up to 1,200 points in the Comprehensive Ranking System.

-    Receive an Invitation to Apply

If you receive an Invitation to Apply, submit your online application within 60 days for your permanent residence.

If you have all your documents in place then Citizenship and Immigration Canada will process it within six months.

Your application has to be processed within 12 months or else you need to submit a new profile. If you still meet the criteria, you can enter the pool again.

Preparation for Express Entry

Prepare for either English – IELTS or French Language Tests – TEF, TCF and DELF to be eligible to enter the pool.

IELTS courses online or attend classroom sessions.

French language testing classes will be available in French centers like Alliance Francais.

If you can get you documents assessed, it would be an added benefit.

Make sure that you know everything about the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
