124th Express Entry Draw: Issued 3,600 Invitations To Apply For Canada PR

21 Aug 2019

124th Express Entry Draw

The 124th Express Entry Draw held on 20 August 2019 for Canada Immigration has resulted in 3,600 applicants being announced Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for Canada PR. The cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 457 in the current draw.

In the preceding draw, which happened on 12 August 2019, the cut-off CRS score was 466 points. Two draws occurring within 8 days, and we have noticed the cut-off CRS score reduction significantly, declining to its weakest point since May 2019.

The rule of tie-breaking was practiced in the 20 August draw, implying that not all applicants with CRS score 457 points will obtain an ITA. As plenty of applicants have 457 points, those who provided their profile in the Express Entry pool prior to 24 March 2019 at 15:32:42 UTC will be given more preference.

The record low Federal Express Entry CRS cut-off score for an all-program draw is 413.

Reasons for the Drop in CRS Cut-off Threshold

Few candidates in Express Entry may be questioning why the cut-off CRS score declined by 9 points within the last round and the current round. One significant factor impacting the cut-off CRS is the amount of time that passes within draws. Usually, IRCC waits precisely two weeks within draws. However, just eight days passed within the last draw on 12 August and the current draw on 20 August. As more limited time passed, fewer applicants accessed the competitive range, occurring in the Cut-off CRS score drop.

In addition to that more limited time passing within the rounds, IRCC has been announcing 3,600 ITAs for the several draws conducted in the past. It is a significant number than had been published in most draws during the initial half of 2019. A more significant number of Invitations often occurs in a reduction in the cut-off CRS score, as more applicants are pulled from the Express Entry pool.

If IRCC resumes attending draws for every two weeks or less and manages a high number of ITAs published per draw, then there is more probability that the cut-off CRS score could drop in upcoming draws.

List of Factors that Impact Cut-off CRS Score

There is a range of parameters that may lead the cut-off CRS score, including:

  • The number of applicants invited;
  • The draws frequency;
  • The number of new applicants accessing the Federal Express Entry pool; and
  • Variations in the CRS scores of current candidates, whose scores may improve or reduce depending on their conditions.
