Chris Alexander, Citizenship and Immigration Minister of Canada invited Canadians from coast to coast to participate in the activities of Citizenship Week 2013 happening in communities across the country.
Alexander said that Citizenship Week calls attention to the responsibilities, rights and privileges people have as citizens of Canada. He added that Canadians understand citizenship is not simply a passport of convenience, but, a pledge of a shared commitment towards the values rooted in Canadian history and mutual responsibility.
At the base of the CN Tower, where a special citizenship ceremony is held, Alexander delivered his remarks. This week, it was the first of 58 similar ceremonies across Canada where, for the first time, over 4,400 people will take their Oath of Citizenship. Nationwide, many more Canadians will take part in reaffirmation ceremonies.
In more than a generation, the first comprehensive reforms to the Citizenship Act will be introduced by the Government to protect the value of Canadian citizenship.
Alexander said that Canadian citizenship is coveted and uniquely precious around the globe. People who are fortunate enough to have the Citizenship, share all of its great advantages.
To know more about the Canadian Citizenship and being in Canada, CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) is collecting written and video testimonials on Facebook and Twitter.
