As per the Canadian statistics records from the past year to July 2016, 320,932 immigrants landed in Canada, which is a record number since July 1971. This is a phenomenal increase of 33.3 per-cent increase compared to previous year. Last year was the faster growth in nearly three decades.
The major share in the increase of immigrants came in the form of Syrian refugees, which began in November 2015. Total Syrian refugees welcomed by Canada sums up to 30,862. Mr. John McCallum in his recent speech also said that he wants to boost the immigration levels in the coming years to help Canada in facing the demographic challenges of an ageing population.
Almost all provinces have found increase in their population last year; however the major share is taken by Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Ontario ranked number one position with the share 37.3 per-cent of new comers to the province, followed by Alberta receiving 57,384 new immigrants.
The above statistics show the need of new immigrants in Canada, as the stats prove that ageing population is the major setback for Canada, increase in immigration is the only route to close this gap – states the statistics.
