What is the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program? 

Also known as the OINP, the program is designed to enable the immigration of workers with a skill set which employers are finding hard to source. The program can help people to gain permanent residency in Canada. The system is specifically aimed at students and foreign workers. 

Next week, an online application system is set to re-open for the International Masters and PhD Graduate Streams and for the Human Capital Priorities Stream. 

Users of the system should be aware that it will pause at times, to allow the processing of applications. Once the backlog has been cleared, the system will re-open. 

Those applying through international PhD streams should be aware that it is a requirement that they must have attended an Ontario University which is publicly funded. However, this has changed for those applying via the International Masters Graduate Stream, who is now eligible to apply if they are living outside of Ontario. 

The service provider for the language test can be selected by the nominee. 

Those who are applying via the Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream will be issued with a Notification of Interest if they are recognized as a qualified applicant. 

An application fee of $1500 is payable by each nominee. 

Applicants should be reminded to submit their applications as soon as possible, as once the nominee quota has been fulfilled, they may need to wait another year until they can apply again.
