Canada Plans To Raise Immigration Levels From 2018

August 31, 2017. The past two years witnessed record numbers in the
Canada Immigration. Ahmed Hussen, Immigration Minister, has made an announcement to the effect that the level of immigration will increase in 2018 also. He was questioned about the figures for next year, subsequent to welcoming 300,000 new permanent residents, for two consecutive years, and he replied the figures would not drop.
In an interview to the Toronto Life magazine, he spoke of US immigration ban, the statements given by Kellie Leitch, and the path which led him to Canada from Africa.
He is helming the affairs at Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada since early 2017, and is now preparing his first major immigration-level announcement.
The Liberals had maintained the previous levels, and adjusted the numbers with more focus on economic class permanent residents and less on refugees. Thus a new base immigration level of 300,000 was established.
The Liberals are aware that the immigration level is a politically sensitive issue and there must always be a right balance and appeasement of all categories is crucial. Hussen has not overlooked it and is in search of exact numbers and finding the right mix.
Security in Canada while welcoming several newcomers from across the world is an important subject, and he said that there will be no compromise on security and screening for human rights violations, criminality, health, and terrorism would be always in place. The results spoke for themselves with the entry of 40,000 Syrians he added.
This year there was an increase of 12,000 in the economic class and 4,000 in the family class immigrants. The numbers of refugees were decreased by 15,800.
The 2018 levels are expected to be between 310,000 and 320,000 which stand at a per capita rate of 0.88%. There is a focus to bring in qualified, foreign workers.
The Plan 2017 for New Permanent Residents is set at 172,500 in Economic Class under the FSW, Federal Skilled Trades and the Canadian Experience Class, Business Programs, PNP and Quebec.
