Canada Updates Median Hourly Wage For Temporary Foreign Worker Program

Canada Updates Median Hourly Wage for Temporary Foreign Worker Program

Median hourly wages have increased in most of the Canadian territories and provinces. Canadian companies who are recruiting international employees use the territorial and provincial median hourly wage to understand which conditions they have to satisfy for the Program of Temporary Foreign Worker (TFWP).

The wage that they are giving and the location for the job determine if the employers require appealing for a Labor Market Impact (LMIA) Assessment below the stream for high-wage jobs or low-wage jobs.

Hiring International Workers amid Coronavirus Travel Limitations

Canada is striving to help companies navigate the red tape connected in recruiting international workers in reply to the coronavirus pandemic.

Employment Social Development (ESDC) Canada has applied the below measures to all latest and previous LMIA applications:

  • Companies do not require to provide minor administrative modifications to the L.M.I.A that would not alter the terms and conditions;
  • Recruitment demands for L.M.I.As in agri-food and agriculture sectors are being suspended till 31 October 2020;
  • LMIAs for professions in the agri-food and agriculture sectors are being preferred;
  • The maximum term of employment below LMIAs has risen from 1 to 2 years for organizations of workers in the low-wage stream as a component of a 3-year pilot;
  • Organizations applying below the Agricultural stream or Agricultural Seasonal Worker Program can submit an earlier valid Housing Inspection Report; and
  • The process of the name change has been promoted for companies who need to put another person’s name on the L.M.I.A for reasons associated with COVID-19.

Canada is also contributing resources for companies to make their operations more reliable for new international employees, comprising a $50 million initiative to permit workers to finish the necessary isolation period.

Workers being recruited from overseas will only be permitted to cross the border if they are reaching for a reason that the Canadian Border Services (C.B.S.A) Agency would consider that is a necessary reason.

If an International citizen is coming to work in a profession that supports significant infrastructure then they will likely be allowed, given that they can prove that their position needs them to physically exist in Canada and they have a satisfactory quarantine plan.
