Canada: Work Permit Process For Capable Overseas Foreign Workers Streamlined

Foreign Skilled Workers working in certain areas in India can presume that their Canadian work permit and the visa applications will be processed within 2 weeks as compared to the current waiting period of approximately 5 months and above, the new program which will begin on June 12th, 2017.

Labeled as the Global Talent Stream, the updated migration alternative will impact the high-growth firms in a positive way which require unique overseas talent in lieu to scale-up and companies wanting extremely experienced foreign talent in professions on the new Skills Shortage List.

Another major change to be implemented under the new Global Skills Strategy is quicker dispensation for the short-term (1 Month or less in a 12-month period) very skillful, low-risk workers.

The Canada’s immigration law permits the employers in Canada to invite and hire the foreign workers in a few definite situations where the Canadian citizens and the permanent residents are not available. As per a generic policy, the IRCC will initially issue a work permit to the foreign worker. The respective employer of the foreign worker must obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) approved offer letter from the Service Canada/Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). It is required in order to confirm that the employer needs a temporary skilled worker and that no Canadians are eligible/available to take the job.
