South African Government may soon consider eliminating visa requirements for international students with critical skills, who wish to study in the country.
Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, has been supporting international students to further work in the country after completion of their course and contribute to the country’s development.
Addressing the international students’ conference, hosted by the University of Cape Town in Newlands, Gigaba said that 20,000 African healthcare professionals educated in the African Continent are working in Europe or North America.
The Minister said that his government is willing to introduce a visa waiver program for international students with specialized skills, and retain them on the African continent for a longer period.
Students with the intent to work in South Africa will qualify for a long-term work visa.
South African students are encouraged by the government to study in other parts of the African continent.
