A Record Number Of Indians Are Flocking To Australia, Report Says

Australia has hit the headlines yet another time for all good reasons.  According to the recently released migration figures, it has found that a record number of Indians are heading to Australia to work, overcoming British expats. And on the other hand the country is also issuing more number of Australian citizenship for overseas individuals. 

The recent Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) figures demonstrate that there has been 46.6% rise in the count of people becoming citizens of Australia. The International Migration Outlook report stated that on a whole 123,400 individuals have pledged to become Australian nationals, during 2012-2013, which is the maximum count, since 2011-2012.

A significant rise has also been observed by the Australia's Migration Program, with 40,100 Indians lodging their applications to migrate to Australia during 2012-13, whereas 27,300 applications from China and 21,700 from United Kingdom.

In accordance with the Migration Law expert, Sharon Harris, there is a rising trend of Chinese and Indian citizens who are seeking Australian citizenship for better overseas immigration. 

She added that India and China are the major nations for obtaining visas and eventually citizenship.

The OECD reported that India has replaced the United Kingdom as the major source nation applying for 457 visas.

The recent statistics of 457 visa, reveals that Indians encompass around one fourth of skilled visas i.e. 23.3%, followed by United Kingdom by 18.3%, China by 6.5%, Ireland by 7.2% and America by 6.2%.
