As per the new data, the US govt has granted more number of H-1B visas to workers in computer jobs belonging to India.
According to Computer analysis of Govt, obtained through a freedom of information act reveals that, nearing to 86% of the H-1B visas issued by US for Computer jobs were bagged by Indian workers.
Most H-1B visa holders do work for outsourcing companies, such as TCS (Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys. The dragon nation, China was far behind, occupying the second place at just over 5%of H-1B Visas for IT occupations. We find no other nation has risen above 1%. As per the data stated by US Citizenship and immigration services.
In 2014, nearing to 76,000 H-1B visas were granted to people who work in computer occupations.
Information and technology Services companies, apparently do not have enough Programmers belonging to Indian origin, which has little to do, with regards to shortage of competent natives for these particular jobs, but we find lot to do ,with the Industry’s business model, said director of policy studies, Lindsay Lowell who works at Georgetown university, Institute for the study of International Migration.
Lowell said, Young H-1B programmers are preferred by the outsourcing companies, because the visa offers control over this contracted short term work form. It also permits them to pay less than they would for the experienced natives and they do cultivate programmers who can better serve their clients after returning home to India.
When compared to H-1B visas for engineers, the numbers are widely different, which does include mechanical, electrical, civil, aeronautical, chemical and other specialties.
Data shows that, the Indian workers, in that category are still on top with 47% of the visas or 8103 followed by China with 19.5%, Canada3.4%, Korea 2.4 %, Mexico2.2%, Taiwan and Iran 2.2 % each.
This particular issue has led to lawsuits, by laid off IT workers and it has prompted calls in Congress for investigation into the use of H-1B visas. The Outsourcing companies, lawyers have said, that there is no requirement for the foreign company doing business in the US to employ US workers.
