During the September quarter of last year, Australia accepted more Visa applications from Indian students because of reducing attractiveness of UK as an education destination and easier visa norms. Australian High Commission’s Senior Migration Officer and Second Secretary (immigration), Jennie Mitchell said that the complex Australia Visa structure has been broken down over the past one year, helping graduates who are on academic pursuit and businesspersons gain easy entry into the country. While speaking at an Indo-Australian business summit, she said that the study prospects of Indian students have brightened after the racist attacks have ceased.
Mitchell added that by 2015, Australia would have reduced the sub-classes in the structure of Australia visa allotment by half. For business visitors, Australia started two categories. One category is a short-stay visa for business purposes not including work – negotiations, seminars and conferences; and the other category short-term visa allows foreigners to stay for 6 weeks in Australia for particular projects. According to this arrangement, 11 Australia Visa sub-classes are reduced to 5.
Mitchell said that every day, 6,700 Australia Visa applications in India are processed in general. She added that on average, it takes 2 weeks for an application to get through the desk of High Commission.
