Canada's FSW Program Still Has 15 Categories Open. Skilled Workers, Apply Soon

The Canadian Federal Skilled Worker program accepts 5,000 applications under 24 occupations. However, the admissions will close on 30^th April, 2014.

The most popular immigration program of Canada is the Federal Skilled Worker Program, as it applies to an extensive group of people who consider Canada as a future home. Skilled workers from a wide array of occupations are eligible to apply, and migrate to Canada without a job offer at hand.

After closing it for almost a year, the program has been updated and re-started in May 2013. According to the new program, professionals from 24 occupation categories are eligible to apply for the Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program based on factors like their work experience, education, language proficiency, age, etc.

Through the FSW program, a total of 5,000 applicants will be accepted from the 24 occupations. Because of the cap of 300 applications per occupation category, 9 of the 24 occupations categories have already been closed, and as of today, 15 categories are still open.

Hence, if a skilled professional wants to migrate to Canada based on the FSW Program, (s)he must do so right now.

“With so much about the future unclear, applicants who think they are eligible to submit today would be well advised to do so,” said Attorney David Cohen, who was quoted on the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)."

“With a little more than three months left until the end of April, an organized applicant could certainly prepare and submit under the current eligibility requirements.”

What are the options?

At the moment, people who are most likely to succeed in applying for and getting through the FSW program are skilled workers in the medical field. Mentioned below are the 7 occupations remaining in the list:

• Occupational therapists
• Audiologists and speech-language pathologists
• Medical laboratory technicians and pathologists’ assistance
• Medical radiation technologists
• Respiratory therapists, clinical perfusionists and cardiopulmonary technologist
• Cardiology technologists and electrophysiological diagnostic technologist
• Medical sonographers

Similarly, in particular states, engineers are welcomed because of an urgent need. Engineers in the following fields can apply for the FSW program even without a job offer:

• Mining engineers
• Chemical engineers
• Geological engineers
• Aerospace engineers
• Petroleum engineers

Apart from Engineers and medical professionals, Canada opens the door for mechanics and land surveyors, geoscientists and oceanographers and industrial instrument technicians.
