Canada Province, Newfoundland And Labrador Likely To Welcome More Immigrants

03 Jan 2015

Immigration News

Newfoundland and Labrador, province in Canada, is likely to welcome more new populace than ever in 2015.

Every year, the province’s immigration figures have been increasing drastically and the minister of Advanced Education and Skills, Kevin O’Brien, expects that the trend remains same further.

Immigration and multiculturalism minister said to a leading news channel that immigration is a major priority for the provincial government.

According to the year-end 2014 Immigration Update report, a total of 825 new migrants settled in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2013, the highest number, the province had seen ever before. In the previous year, the province welcomed around 1,050 immigrants.

O’Brien also said that the immigrants are also essential for the province’s economy, as they need to fill the native labor market needs.

He added that most immigrants between 25 and 35 years old are welcomed, so that it can help the immigration to remain balance and raise the aging population in province.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) has been a prevailing factor in increasing province’s immigration number. Under the program, the province matches native employers with eligible skilled immigrants as well as nominates the employees to immigrate.

In 2015, the province’s Provincial Nominee Program quota has been augmented to 500.

For the Provincial Nominee Program quota, this year 550 more applicants are nominated from a pool of candidates under the Express Entry system, which expedites the immigration process for the candidates holding a job offer or get selected by the CIC.

On a whole quotas are combined to 1,050, which is over thrice the original PNP quota of 300. O’Brien hopes that, the province will receive more immigrants in 2015, expected 1,150.

O’Brien said that 80% of PNP nominees who are migrated to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador are skilled employees and the remaining were overseas graduates.

Under the Temporary Foreign Worker program only 1.3% working population is in Newfoundland and Labrador province.

As per the Immigration Update, the nominees come from 98 countries some of the top 10 nations are Philippines, China, India, United Kingdom, Ireland, United States of America, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria and South Africa.
