16 Jan 2013

Immigration News

The Canadian economy has seen tremendous improvement in 2012 and added thousands of jobs added in recent months.

Immigration to Canada will play a major role in expanding the country’s population and financial wealth. To ensure growth in all sectors, Government of Canada has designed proactive immigration policies which would help attract the world’s brightest and talented individuals.

Canadian Employment in 2013

Canada job market added 312,000 jobs. Most of the jobs were in private sector, in sectors like education, finance, insurance, IT, construction, manufacturing, and health care.

Employment Prospects for Immigrants

Canada welcomes more than half a million temporary and permanent residents every year. Canada immigration expects up to 260,000 permanent residents in 2013. Out of these, 158,000 will be coming from economic immigration streams.

Besides permanent residents, Canada is ready to welcome 180,000 temporary foreign workers too. While every sector needs skilled professionals, the most demanding fields that are experiencing skill shortage are the construction, health care and natural resource management.

Economic Impact of Immigration

Immigrants are the most important factor responsible for growth of Canada’s economy and will continue to remain so in the future.

“Our government’s number one priority remains economic and job growth,”

“Newcomers bring their skills and talents, contribute to our economy and help renew our workforce so that Canada remains competitive on the world stage.”

A number of immigration reforms are done to Canada’s immigration policies to attract more skilled foreign professionals.

Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) – The FSWP points system has been designed for better integration of foreigners to Canada’s employment market. Language skills have got more value while foreign educational credentials must now be assessed, authenticated, and given equivalent value in Canada.

This program is scheduled to begin receiving applications on May 4th, 2013.

Canada Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) – This is a new Canadian immigration program which has started accepting applications from January 2nd, 2013. This is designed to address Canada’s acute shortage of trade professionals in various sectors. This program has a cap of 3,000 applications.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC) – Successful visa applicants can study and/or work in Canada through this program. Applicants will now become eligible only after 12 months of full-time paid work experience, decreased from previous requirement of 24 months.
