Under the 24 Occupations in the Preferred list of Occupations, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) accepts only 5,000 applications in total (i.e., 300 applications per occupation) between May 4th, 2013 to April 30th, 2014 for processing. According the latest update, CIC has received a total of 2247 applications. The cap has already reached for NOCs 1112, 2147 & 2174 and CIC will not accept any applications received under these NOCs anymore.

NOCs that are filling fast are: 211 (Engineering Managers) with 265 filled applications, 2132 (Mechanical Engineers) with 200 filled applications and 2131 (Civil Engineers) with 167 filled applications.
