As per Immigration director- general Datuk Alias Ahmad, the lead time to process permits and Malaysian visas for foreign workers in the construction industry is not eight months but it is only 14 days. He added that staff in the immigration department has increased at its Reference Division and Visa to ensure the process does not take much time. Bernama has communicated that they can come and meet us with relevant proof if MBAM (Master Builders Association Malaysia) takes longer time.
As per checks by Bernama, related to several construction companies he found the process for applying work permits, renewal of work permits for foreigners and Visas took less than two months. Matthew Tee the MBAM president alleged that long process related to permit application and visa had a lot of implications in financial loss and also in terms of man power. Furthermore, he said that productivity of the construction industry due to the limited number of workers was restricted. Matthew communicated that MBAM likes to suggest in creating a one-stop centre for all processes needed to hire a foreign worker.
