Immigrants play a significant role in helping the Midwest to counterbalance its declining aging work force, a study made by the Chicago Council of Global Affairs revealed.
Since quite a decade, immigrants were of great help to offset the dwindling number of native-born people in the metropolitan areas. Over the past ten years, the workforce populace in between 35 and 44 years has diminished by 1.4 million in the Midwest.
The study has casted an eye over 71 metropolitan areas in the Midwest including Fort Wayne. Over the past ten years, the growth rate of immigration has mounted to 27% in the metro areas of Midwest.
Particularly between 2000 and 2010, immigrants have assisted to nullify the declining work force in the metro areas of the Midwest, as most of the inhabitants were over 35 to 44 years.
The study stated that communities need to lure both high and low-skilled immigrants to balance the work force. Moreover, it suggests new federal policies and immigration reforms, which will help to fully realize the importance of immigration to the country.
