Immigrants To Shed More To Visit Australia From July 1st, 2017

Australian government for the first time has announced that the visa fee will be increased throughout the year in sync with the forecast consumer price index.  Foreign nationals need to pay hiked visa fee from 1st July onwards. The Australian Treasurer Scott Morrison, during his budget speech, stated that the visa fees will be ‘indexed in line with inflation in order to generate $410 million over the next 4 years.’

This also means that from July 1st, 2017 onwards the visa fee will be increased in line with the projected Consumer Price Index and hence will become more expensive. The visa fees are expected to be indexed per year and rounded off to the nearest Australian Dollar 5.

The indexation will only apply to the 1st installment of the application fees for the primary and secondary applicant. The indexation will not apply to the 2nd installment of the visa fee.

It is estimated that the visa fee for the students will rise by 10 dollars and will now cost 560 dollars instead of 550 for the Primary applicant. The adult dependent will now require shedding out 420 dollars instead of 410 dollars.

Morrison also announced the annual foreign worker levy of $1,200 or $1,800 per worker per annum on temporary work visas. Employers sponsoring the permanent skilled worker visa will now have to face a $3,000 or $5,000 one-off levy.
