According to OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), Canada’s yearly inflow of foreigners at 0.7% of its population is now relatively one of the largest among the OECD members.
After a record high of 281,000 in 2010, there were 249,000 new permanent residents in 2011. This number does not include the temporary foreign workers (190,800) and foreign students (98,400) who came to benefit from the universities and may decide to live and use their skills in Canadian industries.
The 2013 International Migration Outlook from OECD reports Canadian Government’s successful application of immigration.
The OECD finds that since 2008, employment for Canadian citizens of international origin has increased with the employment rate in 2012 being the 3rd highest in the OECD. This shows the quick integration of immigrants into the Canadian labor force and using their skills to work in Canada.
It is also worth noting that over 50% of Canadian immigrants are highly educated individuals, placing Canada at the top of the OECD nations. Also, a compelling number of foreign students (almost 100,000) in Canada decide to stay after getting a degree from one of the country’s world-class universities (UBC, University of Toronto, McGill, etc.) every year.
One of the reasons for international immigrants to favor Canada as a destination is the offer of labor mobility in the country. Canada was ranked as the world’s 7th most efficient labor market by the World Economic Forum.
