Tourists and business visitors from India and China will be the first to benefit from single visa scheme that will allow travel between United Kingdom and Ireland beginning this autumn.
Presently international tourists who do not belong to European Union require two visas separately to travel between Ireland and Britain. According to the new scheme, they will be able to travel between these nations with either British or Irish visa.
Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice, who announced the launch of the British-Irish visa scheme said that the scheme will be simple and appealing for travelers to come to UK and Ireland and is likely to encourage tourism.
Fitzgerald added that India and China will be the first ones to avail this scheme and she hopes that this new scheme will be a huge success concerning both the nations.
Irish Naturalization and Immigration Service of the Department of Justice and UK Home Office have commenced this British-Irish scheme.
UK Home Office is processing necessary arrangement to implement the new scheme. However, according to Fitzgerald department, authorities of Ireland are functioning with the officials of concerned nations as how to implement this new scheme practically.
Expected to be operated through reciprocal visa arrangements, the scheme allows the UK and Ireland to identify visas issued by each other for short-stay travel to their jurisdictions. This will enable free travel for the visa period between the nations.
