Thanks to the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry, the British Columbia (B.C.) Jobs Minister, Shirley Bond, predicts more than 100,000 jobs coming to the province. According to the report from B.C. Natural Gas Workforce Strategy Committee, starting 2016, 60,000 workers may be needed to build LNG plants and pipelines and 75,000 workers may be needed to keep them running.
Minister Bond who is thrilled by this prospect saying they are going to have a lot of jobs looking for people. The province is advertising Skills Training Programs for working in this project. She also mentioned that the first priority for these jobs will be given to British Columbians, but even after looking at every British Columbian who can and wants to work, there will still be a shortage. Minister Bond clearly specified that they are going to look at recruiting people from across Canada.
According to Amrik Virk, Advanced Education Minister, plans are in the works, and in the next 30 to 60 days there will be in-depth discussions happening with the industry so that they can provide an informed number on the jobs available, the skills required, and when and where they are going to be needed.
